What is Seriously Learned?
Seriously Learned is Dr Laura Mitchell’s educational brand, under which she aims to provide a range of information and advice on creative management learning practice and critical perspectives on human resource development. This primarily concentrates on analog game-based interventions and techniques.
The website includes a range of content on play and games, as well as the science of education, and is linked to a connected YouTube channel.
Who is Dr Laura Mitchell?

I am Dr Laura Mitchell, scholar, researcher and educator. I have designed and taught multiple programmes of study in business management and culture, conducted independent research projects and delivered executive leadership training. I currently work as a lecturer in the School for Business and Society at the University of York, UK.
As a live-action roleplay (LARP) game organiser for over 10 years I also run, design and develop interactive games to support participant engagement and research impact.
I am a member of the Professors at play network, as well as a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, and an executive board member of SCOS, an international academic network exploring topics of culture and organisation. You can find my research publications on the sociological or performed aspects of value and worth and on moral conflict in everyday business activity on Researchgate or academia.edu
What information will I discover on the blog?
Generally, the blog features activities and thoughts with respect to the learning potential of serious play, including reviews of new academic work and design notes from games I have attended or contributed to. There are also some reflections on topics related to learning in general and higher education in particular, given my experiences as a university lecturer.
Where articles concern LARP, this is written with both strangers to the hobby and long-time LARPers in mind.
